Extra Curricular Activities
BEYOND THE CURRICULUM
One of the key aims of the school has always been to teach students that education is much more than academic work and passing examinations. To this end, opportunities are offered to students at every level to extend and challenge themselves above and beyond the curriculum.
Extra-curricular activities
All the children at Oakley have an opportunity to take part in a wide range of clubs and activities, all the activities available reflecting the particular interests of the students.
Some activities are given by school staff and some by outside specialist teachers, for which there is a charge.
Activities take place both during the school day and after school and currently include football, basketball, piano, cricket, tennis, karate, and also swimming classes at Los Lentiscos and Club Metropole.
School trips
Extending learning beyond the classroom and out into the local and wider environment has always been an integral part of school life at Oakley. Every year all classes have a variety of trips related to education in its broadest sense, often covering areas that cannot be covered in a classroom. Visits include theatre trips to see plays and concerts, local museums and trips to study the geography and environment of different parts of the island.
The experience of staying away from home on an overnight camping trip develops a child in many areas and is also tremendous fun! All children from 5 years upwards have the opportunity to go on a short camping trip in Gran Canaria. As the children get older residential visits further afield are organised, such as outward bound and environmental study courses in the Peninsular, visits to England and skiing holidays.
