– University Entrance September 2017 –

Our congratulations go to the Y13 students from our 2016/2017 course, as well as the teachers, for the excellent results obtained this year.  We are very proud of their responsibility for learning, their effort and determination. All our students gained access to universities around the World. We wish them every success in the next stage of journey at university!

ARIN FROM LANCASTER UNIVERSITY

Our former Oakley students continue to thrive in their new University courses. This week we received an update from Arin Kim Kim, who is studying at Lancaster University for a degree in Marketing and Design.
“It is already my third week at the university and so many things have happened- especially in the Freshers’ week.
I think I managed to adapt faster than I thought, so it was great. I already have a best friend and the rest of my flatmates are really nice. The catering food is also WAY better than I expected.
I think the only problem I have right now is the cold; I will never get used to it.
I’ve started my lectures and workshops for Marketing, Design and Cultural and Media studies, which is my minor subject. Although there are things that are a little bit confusing, I find it quite interesting.
I like the fact that in Lancaster University they run lots of activities and there is every society that you can possibly imagine (including Harry Potter, FIFA, Pokemon societies). Right now I’ve joined the dance society and a global volunteering organization called Enactus.
It might be hard to believe, but I miss Oakley College a lot.”
Thank you Arin for sharing your experience with us and good luck over the coming months.

NORTH CAROLINA UNIVERSITY WELCOMES OAKLEY STUDENT

Our Head of Secondary, Mr James, was delighted last week when he received an email from his former student Petr Herman. Petr has been accepted to North Carolina State University in the USA to fulfill his dream of playing professional basketball, and has received a tremendous scholarship from the university to help him study towards his university degree.
Petr spent two years at Oakley College, obtaining very pleasing grades in his GCSE examinations in qualifying for his studies in the USA and the email below highlights the special bond that can form between teacher and student. Thank you Petr for the email and good luck in your new adventure!
“Mr James,
how are you? How was your summer?
Isn’t the school a little bit boring without the old Year 11?
Sir, I would like to thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me last year.
I don’t know how I would have passed the exams without YOU! You were not only a teacher to me but also an INSPIRATION.
You didn’t just teach me physics but you’ve also taught me to be a better person and a leader and that…I will never forget.
Thanks to you Mr. James, I’m a little closer to my dream of playing college basketball in the USA and I want to thank you for that too.
Petr”

FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY WELCOMES RAMU

With students beginning university courses in England, Spain, America and beyond, it’s an exciting time for our past students and we were delighted to receive an email last week from Ramu Murakami who this month starts university in Florida State University, studying International Relations.
Below, we’ve posted an extract from her mail to us…

“Well… I still can’t believe I’m here. It was strange going to “school” and not seeing you in the door of the classroom taking the register.

My life has changed completely. I need to walk to uni every day, about 15mins and Florida is very very hot and humid. It also rains a lot. I had a wrong image of it (sunshine and fresh winds all the time).

Still, International Students are very valued here. Everyone likes them and we all take care of each other. I have a really nice Advisor. She’s like the mum of all the international students, and wants everything to go perfect and she’s all the time running around. Hardest thing of this week has been, saying goodbye to my family and trying to make the right decisions by myself. I don’t have Oakley teachers anymore reminding me of the homework.

Finally I would like to thank you Oakley College for everything. It has been a great experience being there and being part of this community. I’ve learned a lot not only academically but also personally.”

Many thanks Ramu for the kind words and sharing your experience with us and we look forward to hearing how our other students are getting on over the coming weeks.
