Hello from Miss Claire
Monday, 12 September 2011 00:00
Hello from Claire Well, after a quiet April, May is definitely going to be a busy one. Not only do we have Year 4L, Year 3C and Year 3L´s assemblies to look forward to, we have two sporting events. The children have been "trying out" for one of the coveted places at the inter-school sports tournament taking place at the start of the month where we will be competing against other British Schools on the island in a variety of athletics disciplines. Let´s hope our athletes can build on the successes of our footballers when faced with tough competition from other schools. But those who haven´t been selected this year won´t be missing out - we have planned a mini-sports morning for those of us left at school where we will be playing other summer sporting games such as cricket and rounders. Everyone will also have an opportunity to show off their athletics skills on the 23rd of May, when all of Primary will be taking part in our fantastic sports day. Continuing on the sports theme, at some stage during the month, your child will be bringing home a sponsorship form to collect money for a very important charity: "Acción Contra La Hambre". During June, they will be taking part in a "sportathon", working together with their class or year group to try to hit some challenging sporting targets. You will find more details about the event and the charity on the website very soon. Please help your child to collect sponsors before the event. Finally let´s not forget our exciting Día de Canarias celebrations that will be taking place on the 29th of May. The Spanish department has been working hard to put together a fun-packed day of activities to celebrate this special day. We then hope you will come along on Friday 1st of June to a special assembly where we would like to present to you exactly what we have learnt and achieved during this time. So when, you may ask, are we actually going to find time to do any classwork with all these activities taking place? I can assure you that we are all working very hard to make sure that, at the end of this term, we are all ready to make the move into the next year group. Can it really be so close to the end of term already?

Year 4 really enjoyed their trip to see La Leyenda de las Cajas de Música on Wednesday. It was a fantastic story with some singing, dancing and music making it a really spectacular show. We wished it had been a little longer!
