At Oakley College the school rules are minimal however we have high expectations of behaviour. Our expectations are based upon the aims and values of the school. We feel that if the fundamental value of respect is applied by everyone to all situations we will have a community which everyone feels part of, safe and confident in, thus providing the optimum environment for learning.
Being an English school, one of the aspects that is very important is that the children learn to use their English throughout the school day. In the Infant department the childrens' English is developing in the classroom, and in Rabbits and Year 1 the children are encouraged to use English at all times in class, beginning by speaking English with the teacher and then gradually speaking English to one another in the classroom. In the Primary department children must speak in English in class at all times (apart from in Spanish language classes)and are encouraged to speak in English during break times and around school too. The weekly English awards presented to a child in each class in the weekly Infant and Primary assemblies help to motivate the children to keep trying to improve and use the English they are learning around the school.
By the time the children enter the Secondary Department they have a very good level of spoken English but it is important that they continue to practice and develop it.
