Year 6 WEBPAGE
Welcome
Welcome to the Year 6 Web Page!
Miss Rachel and Miss Claire
Hi everyone! Welcome to our class webpage. In Key Stage 2 this year we have moved toward a more creative curriculum. This is in line with UK national curriculum and has proved very popular and successful in our trial projects. The idea is that the curriculum can be developed through all subjects where appropriate. This provides a focus for work within and between subjects and helps make learning relevant to young people’s lives, experiences and aspirations. We hope that this will encourage enterprise, creativity and critical thinking.
Year 6 Wanted!

Are you someone who likes to…
Have fun?
Work hard?
Find out more about the world?
Help others?
Make friends?
If so, we need you in year 6! Read on to find out more about
the amazing opportunities year 6 has to offer!
As well as working hard, we think it is important to enjoy Year 6 – your last year in Primary! You can look forward to some super assemblies, (including your leaving assembly!), camp, magical days, dressing-up days, lots of trips and visitors and running a business (!) We´ll have a great year!
Curriculum
Race Relations!
We will be looking at how people have treated each other throughout history.
Sometimes, people do not treat each other very nicely because of what
they believe in, or the colour of their skin.
We are going to study some of the periods in history when this has happened.
We will study World War 2 (we even get to travel back in time and be
evacuees for the day!)
We will study the life and message of those who fought for equality, looking
at how they changed the world.
We will celebrate the fact that our world is so beautiful and colourful (and
have lots and lots of fun doing it!)
Exciting English!
In addition to our units in English, children will further their knowledge of phonic and spelling conventions, as well as extending theirgrammatical awareness, as part of their ongoing pursuit of the English language. In addition to exposing the children to a range of literarygenres and creative writing, we will seek to improve their written work through the extension of their technical skills in English, includingpunctuation and sentence structure.

We look at props, scenery and scripts as we prepare our fantastic end-of-year show – break a leg!! (Find out why we say this in the theatre in Year 6!)
Term 3
Wow! The year is nearly over – it went so quickly!! This term we will be going over what we have studied during our time in the juniors, just to make sure we understood it all.
In Science we will look at areas of Science studied throughout Key Stage 2 (you can find these on the revisewise website: www.bbc.co.uk/revisewise - look in the Science section!!)
Literacy and Maths will focus on going over any areas of the curriculum we are not sure of. We will be thinking about our use of the English language – our grammar, verbs, clauses, similies, metaphors – all of the things we have studied in our time at school. We will make sure we understand worded dividing, multiplying) area, shape, measures, data handling – again, all of the things we have studied so far.
If this all sounds like too much work, DON´T WORRY!! We will have plenty of fun doing it. As usual in year 6, there will be lots of fun and drama! We will be studying the works of rudyard kipling in relation to our end of term show, which means…lots of drama!! We will be making our own props, scenery and costumes, as well as being all-singing, all dancing stars! Catch our end of year show –
it´ll be spectacular!
If this isn´t enough fun for you, we´re off to camp too! We´ll be acting like Indiana Jones during our 3-day trip away!
